With the arrival of a new studio album once again looking likely, iconic goth-rockers The Cure will launch a US tour this summer ahead of the disc’s expected release date.

The band will kick off its 20-date tour Sept. 13 in Tampa, FL. All shows on the arena trek, which will travel up the East Coast before heading to major cities on the west side of the continent, will feature opening support from 65 Days of Static. Information on ticket availability will be made public “soon,” according to The Cure’s website.

The full itinerary is included below.

The Cure has been working since last year on material for the as-yet-untitled new album, according to various sources. Lead singer Robert Smith has told various media outlets that the set, expected to be a double album, would be released variously on Halloween of last year, the singer’s birthday (April 21) and now, according to the group’s record label, in “early October 2007.”

The Cure’s last studio set was an eponymous 2004 release, the band’s 12th full-length album in a career dating back to 1979’s “Three Imaginary Boys.” In December, the group released a concert DVD titled “Festival 2005,” a 30-song video shot during the band’s headlining stints at nine European music festivals in 2005.

The group currently consists of Smith, guitarist Porl Thompson, bassist Simon Gallup and drummer Jason Cooper. Founding member Thompson originally left the band in 1993, returning in 2005 following the departure of keyboardist Roger O’Donnell and keyboardist/guitarist Perry Barmonte.
